Dopo il Brexit l’Europa “è in ospedale, e in ospedale si spera sempre di guarire: curiamola bene, altrimenti sarebbe un disastro!”. Così Romano Prodi, parlando con i giornalisti a Portonovo di Ancona, a margine di una riunione della Fondazione, Aristide Merloni. “Curarla bene – ha spiegato – vuol dire affrontare i rapporti fra i diversi Paesi. E ormai l’Europa è diventata a dirigenza tedesca, ma – ha sottolineato – la Germania ha vinto per le sue virtù, non per i suoi vizi, intendiamoci”. Ora “la prima cosa che l’Europa deve fare – per Prodi – è appunto ricostruire i rapporti fra i Paesi, fare insieme qualche operazione per la disoccupazione e la disparità dei redditi, e poi lavorare sui settori di punta, l’innovazione e la ricerca”.

Sotto i colpi di scosse ”telluriche” come la Brexit e gli attentati terroristici dei mesi scorsi, ”stiamo perdendo l’Europa, che da ‘calda’ sta diventando,’fredda’ nella percezione dei cittadini”. È l’analisi preoccupata di Enrico Letta, formulata durante i lavori del Comitato scientifico della Fondazione Aristide Merloni, di cui è neo presidente. “Un anno fa – ha detto – non avremmo creduto ad un degrado così rapido dell’Unione”. ”Stiamo perdendo nel rapporto con i cittadini, che non vedono più un’Europa capace di protezione, ma un’Unione fredda e burocratica, un’Europa dei vincitori, non dei perdenti”. Per Letta dunque, ”è il momento dell’agire, ripartendo dai giovani. Quelli che, ad esempio, erano contro il Brexit in Gran Bretagna, ma, a differenza degli anziani, che erano favorevoli e hanno votato, non sono andati a votare”.

L’ex premier Enrico Letta è il nuovo presidente del Comitato Scientifico della Fondazione ‘Aristide Merloni’, presieduta da Francesco Merloni e specializzata in studi sullo sviluppo sociale ed economico.  L’annuncio oggi ad Ancona, presente Prodi. Letta è attualmente direttore della Scuola di Affari internazionali dell’Istituto di Studi politici di Parigi, e presidente dell’Istituto ‘Delors’.  Del nuovo Comitato scientifico fanno parte anche il ministro dell’Economia degli Emirati Arabi Uniti Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Joaquin Almunia, ex Commissario Ue per la Concorrenza, l’ex ministro dell’Istruzione Chiara Carrozza, Ferruccio De Bortoli, presidente di Longanesi ed ex direttore del Corriere della Sera, il direttore della Fondazione ‘G. Agnelli’ Andrea Gavosto, l’ex dg Rai Luigi Gubitosi, Daniel Gros, direttore del Centro europeo di Studi politici Ceps, Giovanni Gorno Tempini (presidente della Fondazione Ente Fiera di Milano), Chen Zhimin, della Fudan University di Shanghai.
