Tutti i messaggi in Allo sono crittografati e i messaggi in modalità Incognito sono E2EE, quindi niente viene archiviato/salvato. Quindi, se un utente cancella una conversazione, questa viene cancellata allo stesso modo dai server Google.

“Cancellatela e non usatela mai”: è questo il suggerimento di Edward Snowden agli utenti che hanno appena scaricato la nuova applicazione di messaggistica istantanea di Google, Allo. La motivazione è semplice: tutto ciò che scambieranno (messaggi, foto, video, note vocali etc), comprese le interazioni con il portale (come domande e richieste), rimarranno nella memoria di Google, a danno della loro privacy.

Il servizio di messaggistica, arricchito, a differenza di WhatsApp, di adesivi, doodle ed emoji, integra al suo interno l’assistente Google, in modo che possa fornire, sia in chat private che di gruppo, risposte alle domande dell’utente. Stando a quanto annunciato, Allo avrebbe dovuto offrire una serie di strumenti volti a proteggere la privacy: le conversazioni sarebbero state conservate solo per un breve periodo di tempo, poi cancellate. Come scrive The Verge, ora che Allo è stato rilasciato, però, questa opzione non è abilitata di default. Ciò significa che le nostre domande, almeno stando alla situazione attuale, verranno conservate e serviranno all’intelligenza artificiale per imparare a conoscerci meglio e a darci i suggerimenti più adatti.

“Cos’è Allo? Un’applicazione di Google che memorizza ogni messaggio che mandi e che lo rende disponibile alla polizia su richiesta”, ha spiegato Snowden. Non solo: la crittografia end-to-end, prevista di default da WhatsApp, è solo un’opzione per Allo. Anche per questo l’ha definito “sorveglianza Google”.

Da parte sua, il motore di ricerca ha spiegato che l’intelligenza artificiale è un valore aggiunto e che sarà indispensabile perché, collezionando dati sulle richieste e imparando a conoscere l’utente, riuscirà a dare risposte sempre più appropriate. Per conoscere, però, deve leggere, entrare in contatto e forse anche memorizzare le parole degli utenti. A Business Insider l’azienda ha spiegato: “Abbiamo fornito trasparenza e controllo ai nostri utenti e il nostro approccio è semplice: le tue conversazioni sono conservate fino a quando scegli di cancellarle. Forniamo anche la modalità Incognito, dove i messaggi sono crittografati end-to-end e puoi programmare un timer che automaticamente cancella i messaggi dal tuo device e dal device della persona con cui stai conversando”. La conservazione dei messaggi, per quanto possa essere breve, comunque è prevista. “È meno sicuro di WhatsApp”: su questo Snowden non sembra avere dubbi.
