“Il principe rosso” di Xiaolong Qiu

Per anni, Chen Cao ha cercato di mantenersi in equilibrio tra gli interessi del Partito e il suo ruolo di poliziotto alla guida di indagini politicamente sensibili. Sulle tracce di un misterioso Principe Rosso – un potente ed enigmatico membro del Partito che sembra avere il controllo dell’intera Shanghai – viene improvvisamente sollevato dai suoi incarichi ed è costretto ad abbandonare il caso di cui ha da poco iniziato a occuparsi. Qualcuno sta cercando di incastrarlo, mettendogli nel letto disinibite ragazze gatto o nascondendo le prove dell’omicidio di una nota cantante d’opera e, questione molto delicata, di un cittadino americano. Mentre il paese sembra acceso da una rinnovata nostalgia per gli anni della Rivoluzione, d’un tratto l’ex ispettore capo si ritrova completamente isolato, al centro di una diabolica macchinazione che chiaramente punta a distruggere la sua credibilità. Ispirandosi all’affare Bo Xilai, il clamoroso scandalo che di recente è arrivato a minare gli equilibri diplomatici della Cina, nella sua consueta miscela di giallo, poesia, filosofia e cibo, Qiu affronta lo spinoso tema della giustizia in un paese dove tutto ha a che fare con la politica e deve essere in linea con gli interessi delle autorità. Per un uomo d’onore come Chen, che cerca di sopravvivere in un mondo dominato dall’inganno e dal tradimento, è il caso più difficile: non si tratta più solo della carriera, ora è in pericolo la sua stessa vita.
